Dear Dancing Friends,
While many classes have closed for the summer, the Woodbridge Group at Bredfield Village Hall stayed the course through some of the hottest weather this year, on one occasion starting the evening on the grass outside the hall!! But we are now taking a break throughout August and will reconvene on Wednesday 9th September at 7pm. Details will appear on the Class homepage.
Meanwhile, for anyone thinking about trying out Scottish Country Dancing, or returning after a break, please get in touch through the contact links here or on the class information page. Now is a good time to join at the beginning of the new dance season. Bredfield classes start at 7pm for beginners and improvers, plus anyone more experienced would to come a assist. This then continues into the main class from around 7:30 until 9:30. Beginners are welcome to stay, but there will be more complex dances in the last hour. We have had several new dancers join us during the last year, and more are always welcome. Just get in touch. The first evening is free for you to try it out.

There are many dancing opportunities in the area, so keep an eye on our What's On listing. In particular we recommend the fun Friday Luckenbooth Circle evenings once a month at Bury St Edmunds. But also there is dancing at Norwich, Cambridge, Debenham, Beccles, Witham, Chelmsford, to mention just some of the places.

Combined Societies Day School Although a number of our regular dancers were not here because of commitments elsewhere, our combined societies' day school on 6th June at Copdock and Washbrook Village Hall was a successful event enjoyed by all there. Jane Rose provided excellent and entertaining tuition to the mixed ability class, some of whom were near beginners, and Ken Martlew providing superb music for both the class and a short social dance that followed. |
The end of an era at Nacton With sadness, but in celebration too, the Nacton Scottish Dance group held its last evening on Friday 15th May this year. Gillian Barella, seated centre, who has taught the class for forty years is retiring, and also with dwindling numbers during the last year or two it has been decided to cease the Friday Nacton classes. We went out on a high with past and present members attending a party night with dancing first followed by a shared supper. |
Videos of dances
Many people now use the YouTube videos to help with learning new dances, or just refreshing their memory on old ones, and these can be found via links on the Scottish Country Dance Dictionary cribs pages. However, not all dances have videos, and that applies particularly to locally devised dances such as The Saxtead Mill, Gillian's Strathspey and Jim and Margaret's Jig. So the Woodbridge class has been busy filling a few gaps. Click on the button below to see what we have achieved!
